Thought I would upload my CV as I’m getting a lot of hits from people searching for CV and portfolio design. Hope this helps anyone searching!

This is my baisic CV design.  This is the CV I would issue to employers for a part time job. I’ll upload my digital media CV another time.
Ignore the font style for now. I don’t have Helvetica at the moment so I have substituted with Gill Sans MT. I always use a reasonable Sans or a Serif for something formal such as a CV or important document.
I’ve spent a lot of time researching the ‘prefect CV’ and to be honest, there isn’t one. To make this one, I followed some simple guidelines:

  • Use a nice clean font which is easy to read, and compliments the style of your CV.
  • Keep it  straight to the point, Don’t make it hard for the reader to find the information they are looking for.
  • Make it visually interesting but don’t over-do it. Make it too ‘pretty’ and it might put the reader off.
  • When listing your previous employment and education, Start from your most recent and work your way back.
  • Ideally, a CV should only be a page long. It’s suggested that potential employers can be put off by pages of information, so make it easier for them by keeping everything they need to know about you on one page.
  • Avoid trying to bulk it out with extra information to make it look like you’ve got more to offer.
I’ll post another design up soon
I hope this has helped anyone who is searching for some baisic CV design tips!

My career plan is probably quite generic, I’m sure that most other students have the same plan as I do, which makes it even harder to make the plan more of a reality.

My career plan has already started. It started at the beginning of the first year, when I was accepted onto this course. I have spent the first two years of this course, developing and building upon the skills which I have already learnt, as well as learning new skills. I have created projects as an individual and as part of a group to demonstrate what I have learnt, and I have documented my progress on a blog. I plan to spend my time in the third year, creating a piece which relates to the area of work I wish to specialise in. I want to get into the 3D design and post production industry, so I need to make sure that my third year project covers these areas.
After the third year, I hope to be able to move to a city, such as Bristol or even London (Although London seems like an expensive and farfetched idea). At the very least I want to be able to stay in Bournemouth. I know for sure that I don’t want to move back to Weymouth. There are no job opportunities there for me, and Weymouth is one of those places where you only leave for education or a job.
If I am able to find some sort of internship, or work placement, I will take it straight away. If it was promising and could lead to a job at the end, then I would re-locate to that area.
If I stay in Bournemouth, I will continue to work whilst I look for further opportunities in the industry. That way I can still be earning money while I search.
I’m not sure if it would be blind to move straight to a big city or not. I know that that’s where all the large design companies are based, so it’s the first option for me.
