Archives for category: Introduction to Maya

Today We learnt how to place skeletons in objects in order to animate them.
We were able to let the object move much more freely through adding the joints and it allowed the shapes to bend and flex.
I added spans to our objects, then we added joints to the object. to bind them to the skin (object) I did this by going to Skin>Bind Skin>Smooth Bind

This is just a bird which I am creating in Maya. It’s just an experiment at the moment to play around with things.
I haven’t really added anything to it as i only created simple surfaces and altered the shape of them. I will assign some textures and materials to it soon to make it look more like a bird.
I chose to create a small bird because it can be composed of simple shapes, which makes it perfect for a project to play around with.
If I am happy with the outcome of this, then I will consider making a bird as my proper project. I could add more detail such as the shape of its body, could make a swan or a parrot, both of which would be more complex than the simple bird which I am creating at the moment.
I’ll be posting up more ideas for my project soon and more pictures of my bird to show how it’s going.

This demonstrates most of the new skills I have been learning in Maya recently, I now know how to add a texture to an image (Phong E) and turn gravity on through objects and shapes.

I created a shaded grid and a sphere on top of it, added 3 cameras and made the main light a teal colour
I then added keyframes to create an animation through moving the lights over the sphere

Today has been the first day that I have used Maya. It was just a simple introduction but I hope to learn how to do a lot more in the program.Picture 2
